We are wonderfully situated at the crux of The Howardian Hills and The Wolds, both areas of outstanding natural beauty, Ryedale, the vale of York, the coast and the North York Moors National Park are not very far as well. Apart from the A64 to Scarbrough, which can get busy on warm weekends, travel around the region is usually free and easy.

“I haven’t enjoyed myself so much on holiday in the UK for a very long time”

Go walking through unspoilt hills, and dales, explore the delights of quaint local towns, famous York City or discover our magnificent coastline. (Don’t worry, we’ve got theme parks too!) Whatever you choose a warm welcome awaits you in the camp, join us for a drink by the fire pit and clay oven, snuggle down in the privacy of your own tent or check out the local bars!

There are many festivals from Ryedale Festival to Whitby folk festival, and from June to September virtually a agricultural show in wonderful locations every week.

We are close to the River Derwent, (one of the few rivers that flows away from the sea) and near the "Minster Way" footpath which leads to the "Chalkland Way" in the Wolds. The National Cycle Network route 66 passes close by leading to York in the west and east over the Wolds to Hull. Check out the local cycle routes.

There are some lovely pubs in beautiful locations and serving good to fabulous food in the area. Full details and our opinions – and those of previous guests – are in the information pack when you arrive. Here is a list of some of the local pubs.

Ryedale was an inland sea bounded by the Wolds and North York Moors, now fertile farmland which gets hot in summer. Here you will find Flamingo Land for thrill seekers, and it is also home to several fantastic historic houses, Castle Howard, Hovingham Hall, Nunnington Hall, and Scampston Hall, a little further afield Newburgh Priory on the edge of the North York Moors. The edge of Ryedale has several market towns, Helmsley, Pickering and Malton. The Wolds is the least discovered part of the area with hidden deserted medieval villages and small steeply sided dales. York City is one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions.

The North York Moors National Park is wonderful and quieter than her sister the Dales National Park. The North York Moors Steam Railway, cutting through the valleys is a delight. Huge skies curve over the relatively flat topped moors cut through with wooded valleys and hill streams, purple heather and hitting the sea in cliffs and bays. The Coast is 45 minutes and away depending upon where you wish to go - Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough, Flamborough Head - there are cliffs, beaches, bays, the lot and warmer and drier than Cornwall!
